Our History, Mission and Vision
In 1973, the church property, which included an old mansion was purchased by the BCOQ (known now as the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec), under the direction of First Baptist Church, Barrie, with the intention of developing a nursing home ministry.
Instead of a nursing home, a new church began. Inniswood Baptist Church held its first service June 30, 1974. Within a few years Inniswood owned the land and a sanctuary was built.
The old mansion, burned down in October 1999.
The new building, with gymnasium, classrooms and offices was erected in 2000.
Prayerful consideration was, and continues to be, service to our community.
Our Mission
The primary mission of Inniswood Baptist Church is to glorify God, proclaim the Gospel and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our Values
Our values; love, prayer, truth, service and outreach are key for our vision to proceed.
Love
Our worship of God is a lifestyle of loving God and our neighbour.
Prayer
We are called to be a people who pray. Our lives, our church, and our community are changed as we communicate with God, individually and corporately.
Truth
Jesus Christ said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. “ (John 14:6) We are called to be relevant to others, as we declare the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
Service
It is the intention of Inniswood Baptist Church to be a caring, community committed;
– To support the church family,
– To consider one another’s needs (Acts 2:42-47)
Outreach
– To respond to the needs of others beyond the church walls. (James 1:27) (Col. 3:17)
– To be a witness, and to be Christ’s representatives in our local community, and around the world.
Through our love, prayer, truth, outreach and service, we seek to be the following…
Inniswood Baptist Church Vision
Inniswood Baptist Church seeks to be a caring community committed to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
At Inniswood, we seek to be a caring community committed to celebrating the greatness of God and responding to His overwhelming love and goodness in worship, praise and obedience. In times, as we join together as a faith community, there will be music, prayer and time to share what God is doing. We will read the Bible, and seek to apply what we have learned. We will reflect on God’s mercy and share in the Lord’s Supper.
As a caring community we will be committed to prayer. Because we know that God is personal and loving, we strive to be a community that both talks and listens to our heavenly Father. We will pray with each other and for each other. Because we believe that God cares about our whole life, (not just the ‘church’ part), we will encourage each other to talk to God about everything, all the time, everywhere.
We seek to be a community where individuals feel like they belong. We value the “safe place” where people are accepted, cared for and loved.
We seek to be a community of celebration, where there is laughter and joy, where friends are made and where we have fun! Even as we celebrate together, we seek to be a community that is balanced and whole. We will not be afraid of the pain and tears that are as much a part of life as celebration. Inniswood is a place where we can learn to let God be the Lord of our whole life – spiritual, physical, emotional and social – in learning how God gives us the health and balance that we crave.
At Inniswood, we recognize that we are all different, that our lives are complex and our society is stressful. Because we all need a place that is refreshing and real, we seek to be a community that is relevant and authentic. Therefore, we will act with integrity and openness. We will not be afraid to change the way we do things, while we carefully guard the truth of scripture that does not change.
We seek to be a community that never stops learning and growing, a church that’s not afraid of questions. We will provide opportunities for people of all ages to be taught from God’s Word (the Bible), to ask questions, to be challenged and to learn from the experiences of others. God calls us to act on the love and mercy He has given.
We seek to be a community that gives opportunity to use our gifts and talents. We will encourage each other to be involved in whatever way God calls us as believers. As we grow in our faith and understanding of how God wants us to live, we want to act on the things for which God gives us passion and to be creative in how we serve Him. We will encourage believers to use time, talents and finances in serving our heavenly Father. We seek to be a community that reaches out to the wider world. We will look to the needs of our neighbourhood, of Barrie and the surrounding area, and share the love of God in practical and creative ways. We believe that God calls us to be a positive influence in our world, so we will look beyond ourselves to the global community and obey God in spreading his Good News.
We seek to join with God in His Mission, as His Holy Spirit
ministers to us, with us and through us.
